Bayesian copula selection

چکیده
In recent years, the use of copulas has grown extremely fast and with it, the need for a simple and reliable method to choose the right copula family. Existing methods pose numerous difficulties and none is entirely satisfactory. We propose a Bayesian method to select the most probable copula family among a given set. The copula parameters are treated as nuisance variables, and hence do not have to be estimated. Furthermore, by a parameterization of the copula density in terms of Kendall’s , the prior on the parameter is replaced by a prior on , conceptually more meaningful. The prior on , common to all families in the set of tested copulas, serves as a basis for their comparison. Using simulated data sets, we study the reliability of the method and observe the following: (1) the frequency of successful identification approaches 100% as the sample size increases, (2) for weakly correlated variables, larger samples are necessary for reliable identification. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Copula Gaussian Graphical Models *
We propose a comprehensive Bayesian approach for graphical model determination in observational studies that can accommodate binary, ordinal or continuous variables simultaneously. Our new models are called copula Gaussian graphical models and embed graphical model selection inside a semiparametric Gaussian copula. The domain of applicability of our methods is very broad and encompass many stud...
متن کاملCopula, marginal distributions and model selection: a Bayesian note
Copula functions and marginal distributions are combined to produce multivariate distributions. We show advantages of estimating all parameters of these models using the Bayesian approach, which can be done with standard Markov chain Monte Carlo algorithms. Deviance-based model selection criteria are also discussed when applied to copula models since they are invariant under monotone increasing...
متن کاملSelection of Vine Copulas
Vine copula models have proven themselves as a very flexible class of multivariate copula models with regard to symmetry and tail dependence for pairs of variables. The full specification of a vine model requires the choice of vine tree structure, copula families for each pair copula term and their corresponding parameters. In this survey we discuss the different approaches, both frequentist as...
متن کاملAnalysis of Dependency Structure of Default Processes Based on Bayesian Copula
One of the main problems in credit risk management is the correlated default. In large portfolios, computing the default dependencies among issuers is an essential part in quantifying the portfolio's credit. The most important problems related to credit risk management are understanding the complex dependence structure of the associated variables and lacking the data. This paper aims at introdu...
متن کاملIn mixed company: Bayesian inference for bivariate conditional copula models with discrete and continuous outcomes
Conditional copula models are flexible tools for modelling complex dependence structures in regression settings. We construct Bayesian inference for the conditional copula model adapted to regression settings in which the bivariate outcome is continuous or mixed. The dependence between the copula parameter and the covariate is modelled using cubic splines. The proposed joint Bayesian inference ...
متن کاملSpeedy Model Selection (SMS) for Copula Models
We tackle the challenge of efficiently learning the structure of expressive multivariate realvalued densities of copula graphical models. We start by theoretically substantiating the conjecture that for many copula families the magnitude of Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient is monotonic in the expected contribution of an edge in network, namely the negative copula entropy. We then build o...
